There’s one house in Los Angeles that probably has more ties to Hollywood history than any other. And it just went up for sale.
According to Forbes, the iconic Owlwood Estate, nestled between Beverly Hills and Bel Air in Los Angeles, is officially on the market for $115 million. The historic house has ties to several of the most famous celebrities ever, including Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Cher.
Perhaps most notably, the house was known as Marilyn Monroe’s “hideaway,” since it was owned by former 20th Century Fox chairman Joseph Schenck during the 1950s, according to the Evening Standard. Monroe would often stay in the guest house at Owlwood. It was later purchased by actor Tony Curtis, who sold it to Sonny Bono and Cher in the 1970s.
Die-hard fans of Marilyn Monroe would surely love to own a piece of her storied life like Owlwood. Recently, other places associated with the star, like her Lexington Hotel suite that she shared with Joe DiMaggio, have become open to the public.
Similarly, properties that once belonged to classic Hollywood celebrities, like Elizabeth Taylor’s pink Palm Springs getaway, have been available to rent out in recent years. Katherine Hepburn’s New England home also hit the market in 2017.
But this would be a chance for any Hollywood fan to truly own a piece of history.
According to Forbes, the breathtaking, Italian Renaissance-inspired, 12,201-square-foot home has 10 acres of property, nine bedrooms, ten bathrooms, a separate guest house (as mentioned before), staff housing, marble fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, an elevator, spiral staircase, outdoor pool, outdoor tennis court, and exquisite landscaping. The home was originally built in the 1930s for Los Angeles entrepreneur Arthur Letts.
In 2017, Owlwood Estate was originally listed for just over $170 million, the Evening Standar, reported. Around this time, the estate was used for a Grammy Awards party thrown by Jay-Z with stars like Rihanna and Nick Jonas in attendance, according to Forbes.
More information, photos, and even video tours of Owlwood can be found on the home listing.
