Uber just launched a new way to get free rides: a rewards system that can be used for everything from your morning coffee or a quick drug-store visit to a shopping trip or dinner.
The new feature, “Visa Local Offers” lets you rack up Uber credits by using a Visa card at certain stores.
To access the new feature, you’ll need to make sure you have the latest Uber update. Then scroll down to messages in the Uber app. Click on the “Visa Local Offers” message and select “Get Started” then “Count Me In.” You’ll also need to have a U.S. issued Visa card in your Uber account. Once you’re in and start shopping the credits will be automatically added to your profile, and they don’t expire.
To use the rewards, tap “Payment Info” at the bottom of the screen after putting in your destination. There you can turn the credits on or off.
You can grab credits at chains like Dunkin’ Donuts, Neiman Marcus, QDOBA Mexican Eats, Regal Cinemas, Steak ‘n Shake, Walgreens, Wingstop and Yard House.
There are also a few local spots that are giving rewards. Belga and Lolinda in San Francisco are also participating as are Comoncy, Saint & Second and Tatsu Ramen in Los Angeles. Mon Wah Nolita, Osteria Morini and Salvation Taco of New York City will also offer the rewards. In Atlanta, people can go to American Cut, Cooks & Soldiers and Double Zero. Buredo in Washington, D.C. and Local 149 and Mida in Boston round out the local offerings.
