Some Amazon Prime Memberships Are Increasing by Nearly 20%

Amazon just announced a big change to its Amazon Prime pricing. Monthly Prime members can now expect to see a nearly 20% increase.

Monthly bills will go up from $10.99 to $12.99, though the annual Amazon Prime membership will remain at $99, according to USA Today. The last time Amazon raised its Prime membership prices was in 2014, when the annual cost went from $79 to $99.

Student plans are also seeing an increase from $5.49 to $6.49, Engadget reported. Similarly, the student version of annual membership will remain at $49.

Existing customers will see the price change take effect on the first recurring payment after Feb. 18, a spokesperson for Amazon told Travel and Leisure. The change is effective for new members beginning on Jan. 19. Prime members can check their membership page for more information on when they will charged.

Monthly Prime members will see a total yearly increase of $24. This now makes the option to pay monthly approximately $57 more expensive than paying annually.

\”Prime provides an unparalleled combination of shipping, shopping and entertainment benefits, and we continue to invest in making Prime even more valuable for our members,\” an Amazon spokesperson said in an email.
