It’s official: Meghan Markle’s father will indeed be walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding to Prince Harry on May 19.
There has been speculation around Meghan’s family involvement in the royal wedding for months, but on Friday the palace confirmed that her father, Thomas Markle, will be on hand to give his daughter away. Her mother, Doria Ragland, will also be there to tend to her daughter’s wedding day needs.
“Both of the bride’s parents will have important roles in the wedding,” the palace announced in a statement. “On the morning of the wedding, Ms. Ragland will travel with Ms. Markle by car to Windsor Castle. Mr. Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle of St George’s Chapel. Ms. Markle is delighted to have her parents by her side on this important and happy occasion.”
According to People, both of Meghan’s parents will arrive in London a week before the wedding to go over any last-minute details. At that time they will also likely meet their daughter’s new in-laws, including Prince Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and perhaps even the Queen. It will also mark the first time Prince Harry and Meghan’s father have met face-to-face.
“Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to welcoming Ms. Markle’s parents to Windsor for the wedding,” the palace added.
As with most traditional weddings, the bride and groom are expected to spend the night before the wedding apart. Vanity Fair reports Meghan is expected to stay with her parents, while Harry will spend the night before the wedding with his brother, William. At that time the two Princes may even be spotted carrying out a walkabout in Windsor to meet some of the well-wishers who will be gathered outside, hoping to catch a glimpse of the blushing bride the next day.
As for Harry’s family, the palace confirmed that his sister in law Kate Middleton will be attending the wedding, despite giving birth just weeks before the event. Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be in the wedding as well, but little Prince Louis will stay behind for the night.
So now that we know nearly every detail about this event we can sit back, relax and wait for Meghan to emerge from the carriage and say “I do” to her real life Prince Charming.
